Welcome to the Tennessee Technology Center at
Shelbyville School of Practical Nursing.
Applying for this program is completely different from any other
program we have here at the
Center. We are giving you this sheet to help answer as many
questions as possible.
However, if you still have questions, please feel free to
contact us. We’re here to help.
There are three different Practical Nursing programs offered.
There is one full-time
program. It is offered in Shelbyville and meets Monday through
Friday from 7:45 a.m. until
2:15 p.m. It begins in September of each year and completes the
end of August the following
year. There are two part-time programs. One meets in Winchester
and the other meets in
Fayetteville. Classes meet Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights
from 4:45 p.m. until 9:15
p.m. and Saturdays from 6:45 a.m. until 4:15 p.m. Each program
is 16 months in length.
Please check with Student Services for starting dates.
Regardless of the program, travel
is required to different sites for both
clinical and labs.

Step 1 - Apply
to the Center
Applying for the Practical Nursing program is a two
application process. You must first complete an
enrollment application to attend the Center. These are
available in person, on the website or by calling the
Center and having it mailed to you. This first
application gets your name in our student database. It
does not serve as an application for the program.
Step 2 - Take the Entrance Exam—Appointments are now
Needed
You may want to study for this exam. Test practice books
are available on-line, or you may purchase a NET PREP
practice book and DVD at the Center. Calculators are not
permitted on the test. The areas that are graded to
determine pass/fail are math and reading. You must score
at least 42% in Math and 51% in reading to be eligible
to apply for the program although entrants into the
programs typically score much higher. Test scores are
good for two (2) years.
Appointments are now necessary. Choose a date that works
best for you and contact the Center in advance of the
testing date to make an appointment. Appointments are
made on a first come first served basis. No more than 25
people may be tested at one time. A valid picture ID
(such as a driver’s license) much be presented at the
time of payment and testing. The test will cost $30,
payable in cash.
If you desire to take the test on a date not listed
above, please contact Anne Blanton in Student Services
to schedule an individual computer test. These may be
scheduled Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until
1:30 p.m. as time permits.
The test may be taken twice in a calendar year and will
cost $30 each time it is taken.
Passing the NET does not guarantee entrance into the
Practical Nursing program.
