Step 1— Apply for the Center and Test (the first of two applications)
Applying for the Practical Nursing program is a two application process. You must first complete an enrollment application to attend the Center. Also at that time, you must make an appointment for the entrance exam (COMPASS), and pay for the exam. If you have taken the COMPASS elsewhere or are under age 20 and have taken the ACT (no individual score may be below 19, composite must be 19 or higher) you must submit a copy of the scores with the application.
Step 2—Take the COMPASS—Appointments are required.
Studying for the exam is recommended. The exam covers Pre-Algebra and Reading & Vocabulary. Passing is 50% (out of 99%) for Math and 80% (out of 99%) for Reading. The first time the test is taken, you must take both the Math and Reading portion ($15 cash only). If a higher score is desired in a single area, you may take only one portion of the test. ($8 cash only) You must wait 30 days before retesting. Scores are good for two years. The COMPASS is a computer based test. If you need special accommodations and desire to take the test pencil and paper, you must have a doctor’s documentation requesting such special accommodations.
The test is scheduled to be given on the following dates at 1:00 p.m. A maximum of 20 appointments will be made each day.
