Worker Ethics

The Tennessee Technology Center at Shelbyville has designed a formal program to address poor work ethics.  The program provides activities and knowledge needed to foster positive work habits.  The U.S. Department of Labor estimates that 80 % of workers who lose their jobs do so not because of lack of occupational skills, but because ot poor work ethics.  Business and industry leaders have identified essential work ethics that should be taught and practices in order to develop a viable and effective workforce.  One of the ten work ethics is taught every Monday morning in each of the full-time programs at the TTCS.  The overall results of the Work Ethics Program are three-fold: (1)  Students begin employment with positive work ethic skills, which enhance their value as employees; (2) instructors develop more motivated and attentive students and (3) employers acquire employees with desirable work habits.
